Disney Parks, Creative Entertainment honored with industry awards

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (November 16, 2016) – This week as more than 30,000 attractions industry professionals gathered in Central Florida, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts was honored with multiple awards from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) which serve as a tribute to the incredible work of Disney cast and Imagineers.

“These awards are a testament to our talented Cast Members, who continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation as we bring treasured Disney stories and characters to life in our Parks and Resorts around the world,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The recently opened Shanghai Disney Resort Disney received three honors from TEA as part of its annual Thea Awards, which recognize excellence in the themed entertainment industry. Awards included:

-Shanghai Disneyland received a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Theme Park.

-Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure and Camp Discovery both received a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Attraction.

-Disney Parks’ Ghost Post received a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in a new Connected Immersion category. The Haunted Mansion-themed subscription service immersed guests in an adventure with the attraction’s “999 happy haunts.”

This week also brought Walt Disney Parks and Resorts several 2016 IAAPA Brass Ring Awards, which honor excellence in live entertainment and more across the globe.

-At Shanghai Disneyland, Ignite the Dream – A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light was named the Most Creative Multimedia Spectacular this year. Building on Disney’s rich legacy of storytelling and innovation, the show features breathtaking projections, lasers, fountains and more.

-At Disneyland Paris, Mickey and the Magician won for Best Theatrical Production in parks with more than three million attendance. The show brings together Mickey and many of his friends for a singing and dancing extravaganza filled with soaring scenery and magical special effects.
